Tatsuya Kaname (鹿目タツヤ?) is a supporting character in the Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica anime and manga series. He is Madoka Kaname's younger brother.

Appearance[]
Tatsuya is a young child with short brown messy hair. He has dark brown eyes and wears a green hoodie with a pair of blue jeans and dark red socks.
Personality[]
Tatsuya is a naughty and very cheerful and lively child. He is very playful but can cause mess sometimes. He can't speak clearly and likes playing games.
Etymology[]
Tatsuya (タツヤ?): A common masculine Japanese given name that has various meaning when written in kanji, some of them include "dragon" or "to be".[1]
Kaname (鹿目?): Kana (鹿?) means "deer"[2] but when it is combined with the kanji "馬鹿" it can be read as "fool" and me (目?) means "eye".[3]
History[]
Tatsuya makes his first appearance in episode one when he tries to wake up his mother and is seen eating breakfast with his family.
In episode 12, he is seen drawing his no-longer existing sister, Madoka in a playground before being approached by Homura Akemi. Then he can be seen playing with his father.
In The Rebellion Story, he is seen again at the beginning when he is eating breakfast with his parents and sister. In the end of the movie, he is revealed to have been one of the few real humans trapped in Homulilly's Labyrinth.
Relationships[]
- Madoka Kaname: His older sister. They are in good terms as they don't quarrel with each other often and instead they love each other very much. During the finale, he is the only one aside from Homura Akemi who remembers Madoka. Though she has now become an imaginary friend to him.
Trivia[]
- In the audio commentary for episode 12, Gen Urobuchi explained that the reason Tatsuya knows about Madoka is because he can see her, much like an imaginary friend. Sadly, when he grows up he won't be able to anymore.
- His age is actually confusing, the official website claims he is three-years-old whereas a question survey focusing on Madoka gives his age as four.
- He goes to kindergarten.
- He shares his voice actress with Mami Tomoe and Walpurgisnacht.
- Tatsuya makes a cameo appearance in the Magia☆Report comic during Season 2 - Episode 96 as a new unit for the second anniversary of the game named Ultimate Tatsuya (アルティメットタツヤ?), a reference to his sister's goddess form.
