Momo Sakura (佐倉モモ?) is the deceased younger sister of Kyoko Sakura.

Appearance[]
Momo is a short and young girl who has red eyes and hair color. She has short hair, pulled halfway into a ponytail like her older sister's. In The Different Story, she has long braided hair and appears to be a few years younger than Kyoko but more mature-looking in contrast to her original design. Though according to the artist, a year has passed and the change is due to her growth.
Personality[]
Momo is depicted as a lively child who loves playing and is respectful to others.
Etymology[]
Momo (モモ?): When written in kanji or hiragana, it can mean "peach".[1] Coincidentally, both her and her sister's name translate to fruits.
Sakura (佐倉?): Sa (佐?) means "to help"[2] and Kura (倉?) means "warehouse".[3]
History[]
In the anime adaption of episode 7, Momo makes an appearance as a paper cut-out during Kyoko's backstory. It is explained how Momo died by Kyoko's wish for her father's sake. She is also one of the characters in the third drama CD, appearing when Kyoko brings Mami to her house in Kazamino City for dinner with her family.
In The Different Story, she makes her first appearance in chapter 2. She makes her first appearance when Kyoko and Mami arrive at Momo and Kyoko's house for dinner. Momo asked Mami to play with her but Mami refused politely. In chapter 3, she is shown walking outside her room after being accidentally woken up by her father. She goes back to sleep after she's told that everything is alright. In the same chapter, she is indirectly mentioned in a TV news reportage in Mitakihara City. There, it was announced that her residence in Kazamino City was caught in fire and she with her parents' bodies were discovered.
In Puella Magi Oriko☆Magica, she appears in a flashback, when Kyoko looks at Yuma and she is reminded of her little sister.
Relationships[]
- Kyoko Sakura: Her older sister. Kyoko misses her dead sister with who she was close with and Momo was the main reason why Kyoko decided to look after Yuma Chitose, a girl who strongly resembles her younger sister.
Family[]
Father
Her father who is a priest. He was operating at Sakura Church and was a cheerful and hopeful person who wished to change the world. He ended up killing his family after learning the truth about Kyoko's secret occupation as a Magical Girl.
Mother
Not much is known about her mother. She died because of her husband setting the house in fire. She is a caring mother as she didn't want to show her pain and abuse she was receiving from her husband after he learned the truth about Kyoko being a Magical Girl.
Kyoko Sakura
Momo's older sister. They get along together and they care for each other. Kyoko became a Magical Girl for her father's sake but Momo died because of Kyoko's wish.
Trivia[]
- The first time Momo's name was given is in the third audio drama CD, which was explaining Kyoko and Mami's backstory.
- She loves fried shrimp.
- A design for Momo for the anime adaption was made by the character designer, though it is unused and Momo appears in the anime only as a stylized paper cut-out during Kyoko's backstory in episode 7.
- The same paper cut-out appears during Kyoko's transformation in the Magia Record game and later received a talk sprite in the event Homecoming.
- Despite that, Momo's design appears in the Portable game. There, her voice actress is also confirmed as Mami Shitara.
- Momo refers to herself in third-person.
