Junko Kaname

Junko Kaname (鹿目詢子, Junko Kaname^?)^[1] is a supporting character in the Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica anime and manga series. She is the wife of Tomohisa Kaname and the mother of Madoka Kaname and Tatsuya Kaname.

Appearance[]

Junko has short eggplant purple hair that has a black hair clip in the shape of a bow that on the right side with side bangs on the left and purple eyes. She wears a business suit with a black buttoned-up blazer covering a contrastingly white unbuttoned blouse, the large cuffs folded over the blazer, a black pencil skirt, pantyhose and black high heels.

Personality[]

Junko is very philosophical, very confident in her actions and a caring mother to Madoka Kaname, and she occasionally gives advice to both Madoka and Tatsuya Kaname, though she can sometimes be drawn away by alcohol and ends up saying awful things about people and topics she doesn't like, such as her co-workers.

Etymology[]

Junko (詢子, Junko^?): Jun (詢, Jun^?) means "to inquire, to consult"^[2] and ko (子, ko^?) means "child".^[3]

Kaname (鹿目, Kaname^?): Kana (鹿, Kana^?) means "deer"^[4] and me (目, me^?) means "eye".^[5]

Madoka Kaname[]

Her daughter and oldest child. She adores Madoka as she is shown giving her good advice, from casual dating tips to giving her tips to navigate in life. She is also shown to be worried for Madoka when she started being secretive and reclusive.

Trivia[]

In episode 2, when Madoka asked her mom what she would wish for if she was offered a wish, she would wish to get rid of some of her co-workers or for the president to retire.
According to an interview in the fourth Blu-ray's booklet, Junko was made as a strong woman so Madoka would want to emulate her strength and courage.
According to drama CD 2, Junko was a poor student at school.
- Shinbo Akiyuki has also suggested that she might have been a delinquent in her youth.
Junko is probably very rich or comfortable, considering she is probably an office worker. The average office clerk gross salary in Japan is ¥3,917,020 or an equivalent hourly rate of ¥1,883.
