Description[]

The stage-constructing Witch (alias: Walpurgisnacht / real name: unknown); Its nature is helplessness. It symbolizes the fool who continuously spins in circles. The Witch's mysteries have been handed down through the course of history; its appellation is "Walpurgisnacht." It will continue to rotate aimlessly throughout the world until It completely changes the whole of this age into a drama. When the doll's usual upside-down position reaches the top part of the Witch, she completely roils the civilization on the ground in a flash through its gale-like flight.

Madoka☆Magica[]

In episode 1, Walpurgisnacht is shown for the first time being fought by Homura during Madoka's dream. By that time, Walpurgisnacht's identity is unknown.

Walpurgisnacht was first mentioned in episode 6 by Homura stating that she will soon arrive to Mitakihara City.

In episode 8, Homura has invited Kyoko over to her house to discuss a strategy Homura has come up with to defeat her, revealing several statistics about her.

In the second and third timelines shown, Walpurgisnacht is absent but is made obvious that she was fought given the ruins of Mitakihara City. In timeline IV, she is seen again, much like it is shown that Madoka's dream from episode 1 is actually from this timeline. Madoka took her contract to help Homura defeat Walpurgisnacht, but in the end became a Witch herself.

In episode 11, Walpurgisnacht makes her first real appearance alongside her Familiars. Homura fights the Witch again using military artillery and explosives in an attempt to defeat her alone, but after failing to even injure the witch, and being hurt herself, Homura begins to fall into despair.

In episode 12, madoka makes her contract with Kyuubey with the wish to have the power to destroy every Witch before they form. With this power Madoka destroys Walpurgisnacht, and indeed prevents her and any Witch from ever existing, though at the cost of the universe reformating into Madoka never existing as a human herself.
